A Guide to Allocating Your Wedding Budget for the Perfect Destination Celebration!
If a knot becomes wet after it’s been tied, it’s practically impossible to untie. Some say that tying the knot on a rainy day symbolizes a marriage that will be just as hard to unravel, and therefore will endure life’s challenges and last forever. When it comes to Madisen & Chris, I am confident there would need to be some serious power tools required to undo their knot because it RAINED (not to mention they also had the sweetest emotional vows to each other). What started out with beautiful blue skies turned into a huge thunderstorm about 1 hour before their ceremony. Although this meant a last minute ceremony venue change and pivoting some details, they didn’t let that ruin their vibe because they were just so excited to get married. And that is some serious love and focusing on what truly matters.
Meet Madisen & Chris- who are celebrated their second anniversary yesterday!!!! From the minute we started planning and Madisen told me more about her destination wedding vision, I knew it was going to be the best day. With tropical glam inspiration and an eye for details (you’ll see what I mean in some of these detail shot photos below), Madisen was a blast to work with and I loved being there in person to see her vision come to life. Chris, being the supportive and chill partner that he is, was cool with whatever Madisen wanted and his only request was a Mariachi band! I remember wanting to ensure we really executed Chris’s minimal wishlist, so we had the Mariachi band come out as a surprise to all the guests during their husband & wife grand entrance at the reception. What a blast!!!! All the guests joined them on the dance floor and it was the perfect way to get the celebration started. The Janssen Neal group knows how to party and kept the dancing going all night long. Let’s talk more about their destination wedding at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres!

What made you decide to have a destination wedding?
Chris & Madisen- We wanted to spend more than one day reconnecting with family. A destination wedding offered the opportunity to do this in an affordable way compared to doing something similar in the United States.
What’s your #1 piece of advice for destination wedding couples just starting the planning process?
Chris & Madisen- Take Morgan with you if possible! She helped trouble shoot the change of venue due to rain and it was completely stress free.
What was your favorite moment of your destination wedding week at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres?
Madisen- The wedding was really perfect! And it was so great to be at the resort with our friends and family. You could be walking to breakfast or at the pool and you would always see different people from the group!
Chris- Obviously the wedding ceremony 😉 Interestingly enough, I also liked seeing some of the storms. We’ll always remember spending time with loved ones by the pool – so relaxing and fun.
Did you splurge on anything travel or wedding related for your destination wedding? If so, what was it and did you think it was worth it?
Madisen- We brought our own photographer, Astrid Johana Photography, which was definitely worth it. I splurged a little on our invites and that was also worth it! We definitely added things for the wedding (dance floor, mariachi band, flowers, etc). Even adding everything we wanted though, the reception price was so reasonable compared to the U.S.
Chris- Mariachi band, and definitely worth it!
How would you describe your experience working with Making Memories by Morgan for your destination wedding?
Chris- Seamless, she builds an excellent working relationship with her clients. Would 100% work with her again. We had complete peace of mind knowing she was working on our behalf. As mentioned before, we would recommend having her on site as she was able to troubleshoot a wedding day problem (venue had to be changed due to rain). Morgan’s service exceeded our expectations and made for a fantastic experience that we will cherish forever.
Madisen- Yes to all of that! And Morgan made the whole planning process so easy as well. Sometimes I would send emails with multiple questions and she would respond with answers almost immediately. She is the BEST!
