A Guide to Allocating Your Wedding Budget for the Perfect Destination Celebration!

If you’ve ever heard the saying that a wet knot is nearly impossible to untie, then Madisen and Chris’s Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres wedding day was a perfect example of a marriage built to last.
Some say that tying the knot on a rainy day symbolizes a marriage that will endure life’s challenges and last forever.
When it comes to Madisen and Chris, I’m pretty sure it would take some serious power tools to undo their knot because it RAINED.
What started as a beautiful sunny day at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres quickly turned into a major thunderstorm about an hour before their ceremony. While many couples might panic over a last-minute venue change, these two never lost sight of what mattered most. They were simply excited to get married.
And honestly, that says everything you need to know about them.

From our very first planning conversations, I knew this wedding was going to be a fun one. Madisen had a clear vision for tropical glam details and thoughtfully curated touches, and every planning call seemed to add another creative idea to the mix. Watching everything come together in person was one of my favorite parts of the week.
Chris, being the supportive and chill partner that he is, was pretty much on board with whatever Madisen wanted. His one request? A mariachi band.
Naturally, I took that assignment very seriously.
If you’re researching a Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres wedding, this real wedding review will give you an inside look at the resort, the wedding experience, and some of the reasons I continue to recommend this property to destination wedding couples.
Located in beautiful Costa Mujeres, Mexico, this resort continues to be one of my favorite recommendations for couples who want an adults-only atmosphere for most of their guests while still having the flexibility to include a few important children in their celebration.

One of the things I loved most about working with Madisen and Chris was how intentional they were about creating an experience for their guests, not just planning a wedding day.
Like many couples, they wanted more than a single day with their loved ones.
“We wanted to spend more than one day reconnecting with family. A destination wedding offered the opportunity to do this in an affordable way compared to doing something similar in the United States.”
A destination wedding gave them exactly that.
One of the biggest benefits of destination weddings is the ability to turn your wedding into an entire experience. Instead of only seeing guests for a few hours, you get multiple days together at the pool, over breakfast, during excursions, and throughout the resort.
For Madisen and Chris, those moments became some of their favorite memories from the week.
There are plenty of beautiful all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, but after helping couples plan multiple Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres weddings, there are a few reasons this property continues to stand out.
One thing I’ve noticed while helping couples choose resorts is how difficult it can be to find a property that feels adult-focused without completely excluding families.
Many couples want an elevated atmosphere for the majority of their guests but still need a place where a few nieces, nephews, or other important family members can attend. Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres strikes that balance really well.
Because the resort offers both family-friendly and adults-only areas, it gives couples much more flexibility than many properties that fall strictly into one category or the other.
It’s one of the reasons I often recommend this resort to couples who tell me, “We want mostly adults, but we can’t imagine getting married without a few special kids there too.”
If you’re exploring resorts that offer flexibility for both adults and children, you may also enjoy reading about my El Dorado Casitas Royale destination wedding review. Spoiler alert: another scenario that allowed a younger guest to be included while still maintaining the adults-only atmosphere.
Madisen had an incredible eye for detail, and one thing I loved about planning this wedding was seeing all of those thoughtful design elements come together.
Many resorts limit the outside decor couples can bring in. Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres is much more accommodating and is one factor that helps them stand out.
For couples who love custom touches like specialty napkins, chargers, menus, signage, welcome bag items, or personalized reception details, this resort offers opportunities that many others simply don’t.
While there is a setup fee for personal decor items, the cost is often well worth it for couples who want a highly personalized wedding design without paying higher Mexico wedding vendor prices. For design-focused couples, like Madisen and Chris, it was a huge advantage.
Madisen’s invitations, luggage tags, cocktail napkins, and reception details helped create a wedding that felt completely unique to them. Those little touches may seem small individually, but together they created an experience guests will remember for years.
I still remember walking into the reception space before guests arrived and immediately smiling. Between the vibrant tropical florals, custom cocktail napkins, patterned linens, and even the disco ball accents woven into the centerpieces, every table felt like a reflection of Madisen’s personality.
This is exactly why I encourage design-focused couples to think beyond the standard resort setup when their venue allows it. Those personalized details are often what guests talk about long after the wedding is over.

Another reason couples choose Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres weddings is the variety of venue options available throughout the property.
Madisen and Chris originally selected the Beach Gazebo for their ceremony because of its gorgeous oceanfront setting and tropical feel. It was the perfect match for the vision they had been creating throughout the planning process.
Of course, wedding days don’t always go exactly according to plan.
Even though weather forced a last-minute move, their backup ceremony location proved that the resort is prepared for unexpected situations and can still create a beautiful experience.
I’ll be sharing a complete guide to the wedding venues at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres in a future blog post, but this resort offers several gorgeous ceremony and reception spaces that appeal to a variety of wedding styles.

Madisen and Chris’s wedding day started with beautiful blue skies and excitement for the celebration ahead.
Then, about an hour before the ceremony, the weather took a turn. For not having a tropical storm or hurricane, it certainly felt like some tropical storm weather!
About 45 minutes before the ceremony, I did one last walk-through of the ceremony setup. At first glance, everything looked fine. But as I stood there, I noticed the wind had shifted directions and rain was now blowing directly into the area where guests would be seated.
The ceremony space had technically been set up, but I knew we were about to have a problem if we didn’t make adjustments quickly.
Thankfully, we caught it early.
Working alongside the resort team, we were able to pivot before guests arrived. We repositioned the angle of chairs and aisle at the Ballroom Foyer backup location. Instead of scrambling at the last minute while guests were already seated, the transition felt smooth and organized.
It’s one of those behind-the-scenes moments that most guests never realize happened, which honestly is exactly how it should be.
Meanwhile, Madisen and Chris were unbelievably calm.
They weren’t worried about timelines, decor, or all the little details that suddenly needed to change. They were focused on the fact that in a few short hours they were going to be husband and wife.
While the location changed, the heart of the ceremony didn’t.
Their personal vows were incredibly emotional, and as I watched them exchange promises in front of their family and friends, it was obvious that none of the things we had been worried about behind the scenes mattered anymore.
They were married.
And that’s what everyone remembers.
One of my favorite photos from the day is the image of all of their guests cheering after the ceremony in the Ballroom Foyer. If you had walked into the room at that moment, you never would have guessed this wasn’t the original plan. Everyone was smiling, celebrating, and completely focused on Madisen and Chris.
It’s one of those reminders that guests don’t remember whether Plan A or Plan B happened. They remember how the day felt.

When I asked Madisen and Chris about their favorite memories from the wedding week, both of their answers reflected one of the biggest reasons couples choose destination weddings in the first place: quality time.
Madisen shared: “The wedding was really perfect! And it was so great to be at the resort with our friends and family. You could be walking to breakfast or at the pool and you would always see different people from the group.”
Chris agreed and added: “Obviously the wedding ceremony. Interestingly enough, I also liked seeing some of the storms. We’ll always remember spending time with loved ones by the pool. So relaxing and fun.”
Those are the moments that often end up meaning the most long after the wedding day is over.
While Madisen was busy bringing her wedding vision to life, Chris had exactly one major request throughout the entire planning process.
A mariachi band.
That was it.
While we spent months discussing wedding details, timelines, decor selections, and guest experiences, Chris remained wonderfully consistent.
As long as there was a mariachi band, he was happy.
Rather than scheduling the performance during cocktail hour, we decided to keep it a complete surprise and have the mariachi band appear during the couple’s grand entrance into the reception.
Not even their guests knew it was coming.
A few moments later, the doors opened.
The mariachi band started playing.
Madisen and Chris made their grand entrance.
And the entire room absolutely erupted.
What a blast.
I’ll never forget watching guests’ reactions when the mariachi band appeared. It was one of those wedding moments that felt completely authentic to the couple. Chris got his one wedding request, and it ended up becoming one of the highlights of the entire evening.
The Janssen Neal crew knows how to party. They kept that dance floor packed, and the tequila shots flowing, all night long.

One question I always love asking couples after their wedding is what investments ended up being the most worthwhile.
For Madisen, bringing her own photographer was at the top of the list. “We brought our own photographer, Astrid Johana Photography, which was definitely worth it. I splurged a little on our invites and that was also worth it! We definitely added things for the wedding, including the dance floor, mariachi band, flowers, and more. Even adding everything we wanted, the reception price was so reasonable compared to the U.S.”
Chris kept his answer simple: “Mariachi band, and definitely worth it!”
One thing couples researching Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres wedding costs are often surprised by is how much value they can receive compared to hosting a similar celebration in the United States. Even after adding personalized details, entertainment, upgraded florals, and special touches, many couples still find destination weddings offer exceptional value.
When asked for their number one piece of advice, the answer came quickly.
“Take Morgan with you if possible! She helped troubleshoot the change of venue due to rain and it was completely stress free.”
After doing a little happy dance when I read that, I couldn’t help but reflect on just how grateful I was to be there with them on wedding day.
Most couples don’t expect they’ll need help navigating a weather-related venue change on one of the biggest days of their lives. But when unexpected situations pop up, having someone on-site who already knows the resort team, understands the wedding process, and can help problem solve behind the scenes can make all the difference.
In this case, it meant Madisen and Chris could stay focused on what truly mattered: celebrating with their favorite people and soaking in every moment of becoming husband and wife.
Meanwhile, I was able to work alongside the resort team to help ensure everything continued to run smoothly, allowing them to enjoy the day without the added stress of figuring out logistics in the middle of a thunderstorm.
One of the greatest compliments I can receive is knowing my couples felt supported throughout the planning process.
Chris shared: “Seamless. She builds an excellent working relationship with her clients. We had complete peace of mind knowing she was working on our behalf. Morgan’s service exceeded our expectations and made for a fantastic experience that we will cherish forever.”
Madisen added: “Morgan made the whole planning process so easy as well. Sometimes I would send emails with multiple questions and she would respond with answers almost immediately. She is the BEST!”
Helping couples navigate resort options, guest travel arrangements, wedding logistics, and unexpected challenges is exactly why I love what I do.
One of my favorite photos from the week is actually a simple one of me standing with Madisen and Chris after the ceremony. By that point, the weather drama was behind us, they were officially married, and everyone could finally relax and enjoy the celebration.
Looking back at that photo now makes me smile because none of us are thinking about rain anymore. We’re just relieved, excited, and happy that everything came together exactly the way it was supposed to.
Moments like that are why I love destination weddings. After months of planning, emails, timelines, and guest questions, getting to see couples fully present and soaking in the experience with their favorite people makes all of the work worth it.
After helping couples plan weddings at this resort, I believe Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres is an excellent fit for couples who:
One thing I consistently hear from couples is how surprised they are by the overall value. Between the beautiful venues, flexible wedding options, and ability to customize details, many couples find they can create a wedding experience that would cost significantly more back home while still treating their guests to an unforgettable vacation.
It’s easy to see why so many couples fall in love with this resort and why it continues to be one of the most requested properties among destination wedding couples.

Absolutely. Between the variety of wedding venues, flexibility with customization, beautiful beachfront location, and strong backup plans for weather, it’s one of my favorite resorts to recommend for destination wedding couples.
Yes. One of the advantages of Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres is that it offers options for both adults and families, giving couples more flexibility than many resorts that are strictly adults-only.
Like Madisen and Chris experienced, the resort has backup locations available. One of the reasons I recommend having an experienced destination wedding planner is to help navigate those decisions smoothly if weather becomes a factor.
Yes. This is actually one of my favorite features of the resort. The resort charges setup fees for outside decor. The pricing is based on guest count and whether the items are being used for the ceremony, reception, or both. While there is an additional cost involved, couples who plan to incorporate a significant amount of custom decor often find it to be a worthwhile investment.
Yes, and this is one of the features that sets Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres apart from many other all-inclusive wedding resorts.
The resort offers dedicated spaces for both partners to get ready on wedding day, including a bridal suite and a groom’s room. While many resorts provide a getting-ready space for the bride, it’s much less common to find a designated area for the groom and his wedding party.
Having separate spaces can make the wedding morning feel more organized and comfortable, especially for larger wedding parties. It also creates a great environment for getting-ready photos, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying a more relaxed start to the day.
For couples looking for beautiful venues, great value, customizable weddings, and an excellent guest experience, I believe it’s one of the best destination wedding resorts in Costa Mujeres.
Madisen and Chris’s wedding is proof that even unexpected rain can’t overshadow a truly meaningful celebration.
Between the beautiful resort, thoughtful details, incredible guest experience, emotional vows, and one unforgettable mariachi band surprise, their wedding day was memorable for all the right reasons.
If you’re considering a Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres wedding and want help choosing the right resort, coordinating guest travel, and creating a destination wedding experience that feels effortless from start to finish, I’d love to help.
As a destination wedding travel agent and wedding planner, helping couples navigate every step of the process is one of my favorite parts of the job.
