Not because there’s a lack of beautiful places to get married. Greece, Italy, and Bali all have their appeal. But as a certified destination wedding travel agent who has personally visited more than 120 resorts across Mexico and the Caribbean, I’ve built my business around the two destinations that consistently deliver the best combination of scenery, resort quality, guest experience, and value: Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

Why Mexico Is One of My Favorite Destination Wedding Locations
If I had to sum up why I recommend Mexico so often in one word, it would be variety. Whether your guest list is 40 people or 175, there’s a resort built for that group.
Every region has its own personality, too. Cancun and Riviera Maya bring energy and nightlife. Puerto Vallarta leans authentic and cultural. Los Cabos sits somewhere in between, with a desert-meets-ocean backdrop you won’t find anywhere else in the country.
As the travel agent and planner for dozens of Mexico weddings, I’ve also found the food is a genuine differentiator here. Resort dining tends to be stronger across the board, and couples who want higher elevated cuisine layered in alongside their resort restaurants have real options.

Why the Dominican Republic Is One of My Favorite Destination Wedding Locations
If your vision has always been soft white sand, palm trees, and water so clear you can see your own feet, the Dominican Republic is the answer.
Punta Cana is the most booked destination in the DR for good reason. You get stunning beaches and one of the widest selections of all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean.
If you want something more upscale, Cap Cana delivers a quieter, more luxurious feel with beachfront resorts just a short ride from the airport.
Then there’s Miches. It requires a longer drive from the airport, but the beaches are absolutely gorgeous. The water and scenery can be so mesmerizing that you’d swear the photos were edited. If you don’t mind the longer transfer, Miches is worth considering for couples who want a more secluded, natural setting for their destination wedding.
Value is where the Dominican Republic really stands out among Caribbean destinations.
I’ve watched couples get exceptional resort quality and wedding packages here without the price tag some other Caribbean destinations carry. That means you can stretch more of your budget toward the parts of the wedding week your guests will actually remember.

This is where I want couples to stop asking, “Which destination is better?”
Neither destination beats the other.
The better question is: Which destination fits the wedding and guest experience we want?
Mexico and the Dominican Republic both have beautiful all-inclusive resorts, beaches, wedding venues, and plenty for guests to do. But they offer different experiences.

- You want a slower, more laid-back week
- Long beach walks are part of your dream vacation
- You want an easy airport-to-resort experience for guests

Depending on the resort, those can include complimentary rooms, complimentary passenger credits, welcome party perks, room upgrades, or other incentives that can make your destination wedding week even more rewarding.

Punta Cana, Cap Cana, and Miches are three of my favorite destination wedding locations in the Dominican Republic. Punta Cana offers the most resort variety, Cap Cana has a more upscale feel, and Miches is perfect for couples who want gorgeous beaches and a more secluded setting.
Cost depends on guest count, resort, travel dates, and package. As a starting point, it’s common to see costs land between $220 and $315 per guest, though your final number moves up or down based on your wedding vision and add-ons like florals and decor. Your wedding costs and your room rate are separate line items entirely, so it’s worth budgeting for both from the start rather than assuming one covers the other.
For nearly every couple I work with, yes.
It’s one of the easiest ways to give your guests a genuine vacation while keeping your own planning list manageable.
It also means your guests have a clearer idea of what their trip will cost because their accommodations, food, drinks, and much of their entertainment are bundled together.
I recommend starting 12 to 18 months out, especially for popular resorts or peak dates. Shorter time frames are possible, but you may need to be flexible on the day of the week you get married based on availability.
