A Guide to Allocating Your Wedding Budget for the Perfect Destination Celebration!

If you’re researching an El Dorado Royale wedding, one of the best ways to decide if this resort is right for you is to hear from real couples who have celebrated there.
Mack and Michelle’s destination wedding combined everything couples love about Riviera Maya. Beautiful views, a relaxed atmosphere, amazing food and drinks, and quality time with family and friends. Their celebration featured one of my favorite ceremony locations in the area, the Pier Deck at Generations Riviera Maya, while allowing guests to enjoy the adults-only experience of El Dorado Royale.
As someone who has now planned four weddings at El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas, I can confidently say this resort remains one of my favorite recommendations for destination weddings in Mexico. It’s especially a great fit for couples who want an adults-only wedding experience but have a small number of children on their guest list. Thanks to the close connection between El Dorado Royale, El Dorado Casitas, and family-friendly Generations Riviera Maya, couples don’t have to choose between an adults-only atmosphere and including their favorite little guests.
I also love recommending this resort complex to couples who want to be mindful of their guests’ budgets. With multiple room categories and resort options available, guests can often choose accommodations that fit their comfort level and budget while still being part of the same wedding celebration.

I’ve helped many couples plan incredible destination weddings over the years, but Mack and Michelle’s celebration will always hold a special place in my heart.
Not only was this the very first destination wedding I planned through Making Memories by Morgan, but Mack has also been one of my best friends since I was 16 years old. When they reached out and told me they were ready to start planning their wedding, I was beyond excited.
As a travel advisor, there’s nothing better than helping people create unforgettable memories. Getting the opportunity to help one of my closest friends plan such an important milestone made this experience even more meaningful.
Watching everything come together at El Dorado Royale and the beautiful Pier Deck ceremony venue at Generations Riviera Maya was incredibly rewarding. From seeing first hand the smiles on their faces to celebrating alongside family and friends, it was the kind of destination wedding that reminds me exactly why I love what I do.
No offense to any of my other amazing couples, but this wedding will always be one of my favorites because of the personal connection and the role it played in the early days of Making Memories by Morgan.
And honestly, just look at how beautiful their wedding turned out.
Like many couples planning a destination wedding, Mack and Michelle wanted a wedding that felt like a vacation for everyone attending.
Instead of celebrating for just a few hours, they wanted several days of quality time with the people they love most. A destination wedding in Riviera Maya gave them exactly that opportunity.
El Dorado Royale stood out because of its adults-only atmosphere, beautiful tropical foliage setting, and all-inclusive experience. Guests could relax by the pool, enjoy gourmet dining, and spend time together throughout the week instead of only seeing each other on the wedding day.
One of the biggest advantages of an El Dorado Royale wedding is the flexibility couples have when choosing ceremony and reception venues. Between El Dorado Royale, El Dorado Casitas, and Generations Riviera Maya, couples have access to venues across all three properties, giving them plenty of options to create a wedding that feels uniquely theirs. That’s exactly what made Mack and Michelle’s wedding so special.
While guests enjoyed the adults-only atmosphere of El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas, the ceremony took place next door at Generations Riviera Maya on the stunning Pier Deck. One of the best parts is how easy it is for guests to get between the resorts. Guests can take a short walk along the resort pathway, or couples can utilize golf cart transportation for added convenience. For Mack and Michelle’s wedding, we coordinated golf cart transportation in advance so guests could simply relax and enjoy the celebration without worrying about logistics.

Out of all the wedding venues available at El Dorado Royale and Generations Riviera Maya, the Pier Deck remains one of my personal favorites.
Located at Generations Riviera Maya, the Pier Deck extends over the water and offers panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea. Couples get the beauty of an oceanfront ceremony without standing directly in the sand.
For many couples, that’s the perfect balance.
Guests enjoy unobstructed views of the ceremony, the ocean creates a stunning backdrop for photos, and everyone can comfortably enjoy the event without worrying about sinking into the sand or dealing with windy beach conditions. Bonus that it’s covered and out of the sun!
The venue also photographs beautifully from every angle. Whether you’re capturing the ceremony, couple portraits, or group photos afterward, the Pier Deck consistently delivers some of my favorite wedding images.
For couples researching a Generations Riviera Maya wedding, this venue alone is worth considering.

One question I frequently receive from couples researching El Dorado Royale reviews is whether they should stay at El Dorado Royale or upgrade to El Dorado Casitas.
The truth is there isn’t a wrong answer. Both sections offer an adults-only all-inclusive experience and access to the wedding venues throughout the resort complex. The best choice usually comes down to budget, room preferences, and the overall experience you’re looking for.
One of the things I love most about planning weddings at El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas is that couples don’t have to choose one section for their entire wedding group.
When setting up a group contract, I can often reserve room blocks in both El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas. This gives guests the flexibility to choose the experience that fits their preferences and budget best.
Some guests are perfectly happy booking a room at El Dorado Royale and putting the savings toward excursions, spa treatments, or airfare. Others love upgrading to the Casitas section for the more exclusive atmosphere and upgraded room categories.
Giving guests options often leads to happier guests, and it removes the pressure from the wedding couple to decide which resort section is best for everyone.
El Dorado Royale is often the more budget-friendly option and a great fit for guests who want to enjoy the resort without paying for all the upgrades available in the Casitas section.
One tip I always share with my couples is to pay attention to the room category names. At El Dorado Royale, rooms with “Royal” in the name are the renovated room categories. These rooms feature a brighter, more contemporary design, while some of the older room categories have a darker and more dated feel.
Guests staying at El Dorado Royale still have access to beautiful pools, excellent restaurants, and all the amenities that make this resort such a popular destination wedding choice.
For many wedding groups, El Dorado Royale provides the perfect balance of value and experience.

For couples wanting a more elevated experience, El Dorado Casitas offers several upgraded features that many guests absolutely love.
Some of my favorite perks include:
One thing I’ve noticed after planning multiple weddings here is that guests who initially choose El Dorado Royale sometimes experience a little room envy once they see the Casitas section. Because the Casitas pools are reserved for guests staying in that section, Royale guests generally don’t have access to those exclusive areas.
That doesn’t mean everyone should automatically upgrade. El Dorado Royale is still an excellent choice. But it’s something I like couples to know ahead of time so guests can make the decision that’s best for them.
For wedding couples, parents, VIP guests, and travelers looking for a more luxurious experience, El Dorado Casitas is often worth the splurge.

One of the best parts of planning destination weddings is hearing directly from couples after they’ve experienced everything firsthand.
What made you decide to have a destination wedding?
Originally, everything was booked up in our home town in St. Louis. Once we started exploring the destination wedding option, we realized it would require much less planning because we would have less vendors to interact with. When we realized that, we were sold!
What was your favorite moment of your destination wedding week at El Dorado Royale & Casitas?
Our pool party the day of the wedding! It was a unique experience to be with our closest family and friends for our entire wedding day.

Prior to arriving for your destination wedding, what were your biggest fears?
We were most worried about logistical issues for both us and our guests, especially as guests were transported to/from the airport and El Dorado Royale & Casitas. Luckily, it was super efficient because Morgan planned everything!
Did you splurge on anything travel or wedding related? If so, what was it and did you think it was worth it?
The catamaran! We did a catamaran as a day after wedding activity and it was awesome and absolutely gorgeous.

How would you describe your experience working with Making Memories by Morgan (MMBM)?
Fantastic! Morgan helped us plan the destination wedding of our dreams! She booked over 60 guests for us while coordinating individual travel itineraries for each guest. She handled all conversations with the resort to provide as low stress of an experience as possible. We knew she would be a wonderful resource because she is so well-traveled. We did not realize she would also be so helpful in planning every detail of our wedding week. She helped plan all details of our wedding week with our resort and made sure everything we wanted was there on our wedding day. It was so comforting to have someone in constant communication with a smile on her face! Thank you so much for planning and booking our dream wedding in Mexico!
One of the biggest benefits of choosing an El Dorado Royale destination wedding is that the celebration lasts much longer than a traditional wedding day.
Instead of a few hours together, guests get an entire vacation experience.
For Mack and Michelle’s wedding, guests spent their days:
One of my favorite things about destination weddings is that the memories aren’t limited to the wedding day itself. The excursions, poolside conversations, group dinners, and adventures throughout the week often become just as meaningful as the ceremony and reception.
An El Dorado Royale wedding may be the perfect fit if you’re looking for:
Between the beautiful scenery, excellent service, and variety of venue options, it’s easy to see why so many couples choose this resort for their destination wedding.

Mack and Michelle’s wedding perfectly showcases what makes an El Dorado Royale wedding so special.
From their stunning ceremony on the Pier Deck to the unforgettable experiences shared with family and friends throughout the week, their celebration was the perfect combination of romance, relaxation, and fun.
If you’re considering an El Dorado Royale wedding, I’d love to help you determine whether this resort is the right fit for your vision, budget, and guest list.
Having personally planned multiple weddings at El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas, I can help you compare venue options, room categories, wedding packages, and resort experiences so you can confidently choose the destination that’s right for you.
